A tax attorney from New York asked another New York tax attorney what is the IRS penalty for IRS tax debt. The second tax attorney responded that he didn't know, there lies the IRS problem. The complicated tax code makes it almost impossible for tax attorneys to keep up to date with all the current tax codes. I would be surprised if the IRS tax attorneys actually were well versed in the tax codes that they, the tax attorneys, actually wrote.

Tax attorneys in NY, as well as tax attorneys in other states would be the last ones to actually want the system to be over hauled. The tax attorneys can charge exorbitant fees because they are the only ones who understand the complex codes written by the IRS tax attorneys!
